How it works

1. You make it

Create something by hand for the swap. For the Founding Swap, your creation should have a typical value of £20–£50. It can be something you've made especially for OohWhat or something you've already created.

To join, you'll submit clear photos of what you're sending, along with a short description. We review every submission so we can approve it and understand what's going into the swap — a bit like proof before things go out.

2. You package it

Wrap your creation safely and get it ready for its new home.

3. We match it

Once everyone is in, OohWhat creates the matches. We'll tell you who you're sending to and where to send it. They won't be the person sending something back to you.

When you join, you can share preferences for what you'd like to receive. We'll do our best to find something special with that in mind — but preferences are a guide, not an order. We can't promise an exact match, and that's part of the surprise.

4. You send it

Post your creation to your assigned recipient by the deadline. You cover the postage, and we'll keep track of who's sent so nobody gets forgotten.

5. Something comes back

While your creation is making its way to one stranger, another maker is sending something to you. You won't know who made it or what's inside until it arrives.

6. You open it

This is the good bit. Open your OohWhat, discover what someone else made, and reveal the maker behind your surprise.

If you enjoyed it, share your exchange online, tag the creator, or reach out to say thank you. When you reveal your maker, we'll share their details if they added Instagram or TikTok when they joined — so you can find them and celebrate their work.
