Exchange rules

OohWhat only works when everyone sends something they'd be genuinely happy to receive. By joining the Founding Swap, you're committing to make, send and receive in good faith.

Who can join

To take part, you must:

• Be 18 or older
• Live in the UK with a valid UK delivery address
• Submit something you made yourself
• Be able to post your creation within the UK
• Commit to sending it by the stated deadline
• Provide accurate contact and delivery information

What you can send

Your creation must:

• Be handmade primarily by you
• Be finished and ready to send
• Be new and unused
• Be clean, safe and suitable for its intended use
• Be legal to own and post within the UK
• Reasonably fit the £20–£50 value tier
• Match the photos and description you submit
• Be packaged appropriately so it can arrive safely

You don't need to run a business or have an online shop to take part.

What we don't accept

Please don't submit:

• Food or drink
• Alcohol
• Medicines or supplements
• Cosmetics or skincare
• Tobacco or vaping products
• Drugs or controlled substances
• Weapons
• Hazardous or flammable materials
• Sexually explicit products
• Counterfeit goods
• Live plants or animals
• Items containing another person's personal information
• Anything illegal, unsafe or prohibited from being posted within the UK

OohWhat may reject an item if we don't think it's suitable for the exchange.

About the £20–£50 value

The value tier is there to keep things fair, not to make every creation worth exactly the same amount.

Your creation should be something that could reasonably sell for around £20–£50, considering the finished item, materials, time and craftsmanship involved.

You don't need an existing shop or product listing.

We can't guarantee that the creation you receive will have exactly the same monetary value as the one you send. Handmade work is subjective, and that's why we review every submission.

Your creation will be reviewed

Before you're officially included, we'll ask for:

• Clear photos of your creation
• A short description
• Materials used
• Your estimated value

We'll manually review your submission to make sure it broadly meets the exchange rules and value tier.

Approval doesn't mean OohWhat guarantees the quality, safety or exact monetary value of an item.

Help us start the OohWhat community

The Founding Swap has no platform fee. In return, we're asking our first makers to help us get OohWhat out into the world.

Before your place is confirmed:

• Follow OohWhat on either TikTok or Instagram
• Like the Founding Swap post
• Repost or share it
• Leave a little “OohWhat!” in the comments — or write your own message
• Tell us your social @ when you join so we can confirm it

You only need to do this on one platform — TikTok or Instagram.

There's no follower requirement and you don't need a creator or business account.

Every share helps another maker find us, which means more creations, more people and a better first swap.

Sending your creation

Once matches are released:

• You must post your creation by the stated deadline
• You pay your own postage
• We strongly recommend using a service that provides proof of postage
• You'll need to mark your creation as sent through OohWhat

Please don't join if you aren't confident you'll be able to send your creation on time.

If someone doesn't send

Nobody should send something and simply receive nothing in return.

We'll monitor whether participants have posted their creations and contact anyone who misses the deadline.

Participants who don't send their creation without a reasonable explanation may be removed from the exchange and prevented from joining future OohWhat swaps.

For the Founding Swap, we'll also aim to have a small group of backup makers who can step in where possible if somebody is unexpectedly left without a parcel.

Lost or damaged parcels

Once a creation has been posted, delivery is handled by the chosen postal or courier service.

We strongly recommend keeping proof of postage and using tracked delivery where practical.

If something goes wrong, contact us and we'll do our best to help. However, OohWhat can't guarantee or reimburse items that are lost or damaged in transit.

One last thing…

Send something you're proud to put your name on.

OohWhat isn't a way to get rid of something you don't want. Someone out there is putting their time, creativity and care into making sure something good arrives for you.
